HCEC Helps Families Prepare for Back to School

August 05, 2016

HCEC is working to make sure Houston area students are going back to school safely.  Employees participated in a Back to School event at Black Middle School on July 30, 2016. The event provided students with some of the tools they need to start the school year off right. In addition to backpacks, uniforms, immunizations, and basic school supplies, dozens of students and their younger siblings received new booster and child car seats.

Every 34 seconds, one child under age 13 is involved in a crash. Every year, thousands of children are tragically injured or killed in car crashes. Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

HCEC teamed up with Texas Children’s Hospital to provide free car seat checkups at the event. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians gave hands-on advice and instruction to parents and caregivers on how to choose the right car seat for their child’s age and size. They also gave out free car seats to children in need.
