Harris County Emergency Corps Offering Free Car Seat Check-Up Events

Houston, Texas (September 12, 2013) – Traveling on the road can be dangerous, and Harris County Emergency Corps (HCEC) is teaming with Safe Kids to help prevent death and injuries to children by providing free car seat check-ups.

HCEC’s scheduled Free Car Seat Check-Up Events will be held:

  • Monday, September 16 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Southlake EMS Station 15 (14418 Beaumont Highway, Houston, TX 77049)
  • Thursday, September 19 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Walmart (9235 N. Sam Houston Parkway, Humble, Texas 77396)
  • Saturday, October 12 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Cobb Elementary (915 Dell Dale, Houston, TX 77530)
  • Thursday, October 17 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Walmart  (10411 N. Freeway, Houston, TX 77037)

Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States and correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent, according to Safe Kids.

During a car seat check-up, technicians will help parents choose the right direction of a car seat, explain what car seat works best for the age and weight of a child, do an inch and pinch test, discuss when it’s time for a booster seat, and provide other tips and tricks along the way.

“We have a passion for helping people,” said Jeremy Hyde, Executive Director for HCEC. “By offering free programs like the Car Seat Check Ups, we are able to give back to the community we serve.”
